A Napa wine weekend is one of the easiest getaways to say yes to and one of the easiest to overthink. With hundreds of wineries, a long list of restaurants and only two or three days, it helps to have a plan. Staying at Silverado Resort in Napa gives you a big head start. You’re on the quieter east side of the valley, minutes from the Silverado Trail and about ten minutes from downtown Napa, and you come home each night to a private condo instead of a hotel hallway.
Here’s how we’d plan the weekend, from picking your dates to the last glass on the patio.
Pick the Right Season for Your Napa Wine Weekend
There’s no bad time to visit Napa, but every season feels a little different.
- Harvest (late summer into fall): Harvest, which locals call “crush,” usually starts with sparkling-wine grapes in August and wraps up with Cabernet Sauvignon in the fall. The valley is busy, the vineyards are full of activity and the weather is usually warm and sunny. It’s also the most popular time to visit, so book early.
- Late fall and winter: Once the grapes are in, the pace slows. Visit Napa Valley calls the stretch after harvest “Cabernet Season.” Expect cooler days, cozy tasting rooms and an easier time getting reservations.
- Spring: The vines leaf out, the hills turn green and the valley wakes up again before the summer rush.
Whenever you come, weekdays are usually calmer than Saturdays. If your schedule allows, a Thursday-to-Sunday or Sunday-to-Tuesday stay can make the whole trip feel more relaxed.
Why Silverado Resort Makes a Great Home Base
Every ModBnB home is inside Silverado Resort & Spa, so the resort’s golf courses, spa and restaurants are a few steps or a short drive from your door. That makes it easy to mix wine tasting with downtime: a morning round of golf, an afternoon tasting, then dinner in town or at home.
With a ModBnB stay you also get room to spread out. Our condos come with kitchens, living areas and patios, which is handy when you come back with a few bottles and want to open one with a cheese board instead of heading out again. Browse our 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom homes, or see all of our properties, to find the right fit for a couple’s trip or a group of friends.

Wineries Just Minutes from Your Door
One of the best parts of staying at Silverado is how close the wineries are. You don’t have to spend half the day driving up and down Highway 29.
- Whetstone Wine Cellars: A family-owned winery just down Atlas Peak Road, pouring single-vineyard, single-varietal wines in a restored 19th-century French-style chateau. In cooler months the fireside tasting salon is especially inviting.
- The Silverado Trail: A few minutes’ drive takes you to the Silverado Trail, the scenic road along the east side of the valley. Nearby stops include Black Stallion Estate Winery and Darioush.
- The Stags Leap District: A little farther up the Trail, you’ll find Regusci Winery, a historic family estate, and Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, whose 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon took the top red-wine honor at the famous 1976 Judgment of Paris tasting. Pine Ridge Vineyards is close by too.
- Downtown Napa tasting rooms: If you’d rather walk than drive, downtown Napa has a cluster of tasting rooms along First Street and Main Street, plus Oxbow Public Market for lunch or snacks.

How to Book Tastings Without the Stress
A little planning goes a long way in Napa.
- Reserve ahead. Many wineries ask for reservations, and some are appointment-only. Weekends and harvest season fill up first, so book your must-visit spots as soon as your dates are set.
- Plan two or three tastings a day. A seated tasting can take an hour or more. Two or three stops, with a real lunch in between, is plenty and leaves time to enjoy each one.
- Check the details. Hours, prices, age policies and pet rules vary by winery and change from time to time, so check each winery’s website before you go.
- Plan your ride. Pick a designated driver or book a car or driver for tasting days. Staying close to the Silverado Trail keeps those drives short.
- Mix it up. Add something that isn’t wine: a walk along the Napa River, a ride on the Napa Valley Vine Trail, a cooking class at the CIA at Copia or a spa treatment at the resort.

A Sample Napa Wine Weekend Itinerary
Use this as a starting point and make it your own.
Friday: Check in, settle into your condo and pick up groceries for breakfast. Head to downtown Napa for an easy dinner and a stroll along the river, or keep it simple with a bottle on your patio.
Saturday: Start with coffee at home, then take a morning tasting nearby, like Whetstone or a winery on the Silverado Trail. Have lunch at Oxbow Public Market or in Yountville, then book one more afternoon tasting in the Stags Leap District. Back at Silverado, unwind before dinner, maybe by a fire pit as the evening cools off.
Sunday: Sleep in, then book a treatment at the Spa at Silverado, play a round on one of the resort’s two golf courses, or simply relax around the resort grounds. If you have time before heading home, stop at one last tasting room downtown.
Want a bigger outing? Ideas like a hot air balloon ride at sunrise, the Napa Valley Wine Train or a day trip up the valley to St. Helena and Calistoga are all in our What’s Nearby guide.
Tips for Groups and Celebrations
Napa is a natural choice for birthdays, anniversaries, girls’ weekends and bachelorette trips. A few tips for groups:
- Book tastings early and confirm group size. Many tasting rooms have limits on party size, and larger groups may need a private or group booking.
- Choose a home with space. A 2- or 3-bedroom condo gives everyone a place to sleep and a shared living room and kitchen for getting ready together, pre-dinner snacks and late-night talks.
- Build in downtime. A slower afternoon at the pool or a spa visit keeps the whole group happy through day two.
